>The chances are slim for Carl Edwards to emerge as the 2012 Sprint Cup Champion, if you look at history.

 Call it the Bridesmaid Curse.

 Since 1985, only 2 drivers have finished 2nd in a season and came back the following year to win the Championship.

 Bobby Labonte finished 2nd in 1999 and was Champ in 2000, & Tont Stewart finished 2nd in 2001 and was Champ in 2002.

 The average finish for the runner up in the next season over the last ten years is 9th and 2 drivers have not made the Chase the next year, Greg Biffle missed in 2006 after finishing 2nd in 2005 & Mark Martin in 2010 after finishing 2nd in 2009.

 So with those kind of odds, what do you think?

 I personally think Carl will make the Chase in 2012, he will contend again but will not win.
